Perfect plunge lines on your knives! -Plunge Platen
The Plunge Platen enables knife makers to quickly grind perfect plunge lines perpendicular to the blade. Utilising all 4 corners of the hardened platen and a wheel mounted underneath to help transition the belt. This drastically reduces the time spent finishing blades and will give you perfect symmetry to your plunges.

probably better than my solution which is to get a nice mid-width log, some scrap steel plate (admittedly of unknown steel type) and drill holes in it, then bolt the steel plate down onto the log. all supplies and tooling courtesy of a close friend of mine for free. Still, for not having any tools of my own i think it's a great start even if it is not ideal, and it also fosters creativity to overcome hardship caused by the initial lack of tools. Future upgrades include either building a wood table with wheels, or putting wheels on the log itself. If i build the table i have a chemistry solution that can be painted onto wood planks. It turns them jet black and makes them remarkably fire and acid resistant. Should be tough enough to survive stray brief exposure to hot metal.

A good deal of that deflection problem could be resolved by making the ram connected sled long enough to go behind the stationary anvil. An alternative (expensive solution) would be roller bearings.
